Breakers act as switches for all of your circuits, controlling power to different sections of your home.

An electrical panel (breaker panel) is a metal box with a door, usually built into a wall in an out-of-the-way corner of your home. Inside, you’ll find all your home’s breaker switches, which control the flow of electricity to the different areas of your house.

Breaker switches are designed to shut off an ongoing current or to protect a hot electrical circuit when there’s too much of a current running through it. You don’t actually have to do anything for them to do what’s intended. They’re simply on/off switches, just like any other switch in your home — except they’re bigger so you can touch them, and they also have a handle that you can pull outward

It’s positioned in a way that makes it most likely to expand away from the magnetic switch, allowing electricity to pass through the circuit. The strip doesn’t actually measure amperage, instead choosing to trip at either 20 or 30 amps. When something in a circuit causes too much amperage, the circuit breaker trips and shuts off the power.
